A
t Lidl we’re always
trying to do all we can
to make your world
and your community a better
place. Some of the things we
do are really quite big and
some of them are quite small.
But we believe that they’re all
equally important.
We call them all Lidl Steps, because
we’re on a journey to what we hope
and know will be a better tomorrow.
You can already see the effect of
many of these Lidl Steps in your local
store or your local community today.
For instance, we work with more than
400 Irish suppliers to provide you
with outstanding local food. They’re

our partners in excellence. We spend
over €1bn with them and you can see
the fruits of their passion on every
aisle. But we’ve always wanted to do
more. So, in 2017 we launched our
Kickstart programme. We invest in
local businesses helping them to
grow and innovate and meet the
challenges of modern food
production. It’s been a great
success from the start and we’re
working with new businesses all
the time.
Another Lidl Step we’ve taken, and
you can taste, is the responsible
sourcing of cocoa for our Way To Go!
Chocolate. We source all our beans
from farmers in the Kuapa Kokoo
co-operative in Ghana. Every
farmer is guaranteed a Fairtrade
price and, on top of this, we pay an
extra Lidl premium which is invested
in training farmers in sustainable
growing methods.
Closer to home, another major
Lidl Step we’ve taken is a concerted
effort to reduce and eliminate food
waste. We’ve partnered with Food
Cloud to redistribute food that
otherwise would simply have gone
to waste. Working together we’ve
connected all our stores with over
300 charities. Since 2017 we’ve
provided over 3 million meals to
people who needed them most
right across the country.
Our communities, our planet,
we all benefit from this.
Of course, sustainability is
