In terms of their biological value, insect-based
snacks for dogs are in no way inferior to those
based on meat. It makes sense to use insect
protein, especially for dogs with intolerances,
because very few dogs are allergic to it. Plus, there
are the ecological considerations. Keeping and
rearing insects is more resource-efficient, because
they require less water and also produce fewer
greenhouse gases.

Dogs increase the odds of flirting!
Scientists from the Messerli Research
Institute of the University of Veterinary
Medicine Vienna analysed 2,400 profiles
from online dating platforms. The result:
roughly 16 per cent of the profiles
studied had at least one photo showing
an animal – 45 per cent of these were
dogs, 25 per cent cats. The study also
shows that people deliberately pose with
their pets in order to send a message
about their personality through the pets
they choose. Dogs are seen as being
more social and also need to be looked
after more than cats – and this reflects
on their owners as positive character
traits such as reliability and empathy.
Men with dogs are seen as particularly
masculine and attractive. Male cat
owners, on the other hand, come across
as not being as dateable.

More than 99 per cent of tortoiseshell cats
with either red and black or red, black and white
mottled coats are female. This is due to the genetics
that produce this coat pattern.
Only 0.43 per cent of “torties” are male. But they
are sterile. To equal things out, more than 80 per
cent of red tabby cats are male.
